You sit in your favorite recliner, the sweat running down your back as you fan yourself with the newspaper. “Blast this 100-degree heat and humidity,” you think to yourself. “If only I had some Air Conditioning, this wouldn’t be so bad.” This is the plight of anyone who lives in an apartment or a rental home during the height of summer. Who wants to invest money in a permanent air conditioner that you will need to leave behind when you move out? Well, there is finally a great solution to this dilemma: get a portable air conditioner. You will be able to cool off in your apartment or rental home, and then when you are ready to leave, your handy portable air conditioner can come with you, too.
One of the nice features of portable air conditioners is that you can find them in several sizes, so you can get just the right one to meet your cooling needs. If you have a small place, there are portable air conditioners that can beautifully cool 200 square feet. For larger areas, you can find great portable units that will maintain a comfortable temperature in 500 square feet, and any range in between. As the name implies, these air conditioners can move because they have coasters on the bottom that allow them to roll effortlessly from place to place. If you want to cool the bedroom at night, and an office area in the morning, you can do it all with a portable air conditioner.
If you have allergies, then air quality is a huge issue for you. Many portable air conditioners can actually improve the air circulation in rooms with poor ventilation, and can use ionizers and filters to trap impurities from the air. Dehumidifiers are also available in some units.
Some of the portable air conditioners are very small, and run very quietly, which is a plus if you have it in the bedroom and you are trying to sleep. They come in manual and remote control varieties.
A permanent air conditioner can be a big power waster. In contrast, you will enjoy cost savings due to the efficient manner in which portable air conditioners function. Many recycle the moisture captured in the room, and use that water to cool the cooling coils. This helps the unit to run more economically, because it is not over-taxed by the demands placed on it.
Probably the best part of having a portable air conditioner is the fact that when you decide to move out of your apartment or rental home, the air conditioner will be going with you. No more money down the drain–now your super-functional portable air conditioner is yours to keep.

Swamp coolers are a great and inexpensive way to cool off your automotive shop in the summer.
A swamp cooler is essentially a large fan with water-moistened pads in front of it. The fan draws warm outside air through the pads and blows the now-cooled air throughout the house. The pads can be made of wood shavings - wood from aspen trees is a traditional choice - or other materials that absorb and hold moisture while resisting mildew. Aspen wood pads, also called excelsior, need to be replaced every season or two, and generally cost $20 to $40 for a set.
Small distribution lines supply water to the top of the pads. Water soaks the pads and, thanks to gravity, trickles through them to collect in a sump at the bottom of the cooler. A small water pump circulates the collected water back to the top of the pads. Then the process begins over again.
Since water is continually lost through evaporation, a float valve - much like the one that controls the water in a toilet tank - adds water to the sump when the level gets low. Under normal conditions, a swamp cooler can use between 3 to 15 gallons of water a day.
A large fan draws air through the pads, where evaporation drops the temperature approximately 20 degrees. The fan then blows this cooled air into the house. Small units can be installed in a window, blowing cooled air directly into a room. Larger units can blow air into a central location, or the air can travel through ductwork to individual rooms.
Normal Air Conditioning is a closed system, taking air from inside a house and recycling it. For air conditioning to function properly, doors and windows should be closed. Swamp coolers, however, take air from outside the house. For a swamp cooler to work properly, the cooled outside air must be allowed to escape. By choosing which doors or windows in your home you leave open, you can to help direct the flow of cooled air to areas where it is needed.

what is the purpose of the transducer- i dont know what the transducer is
A transducer is a device that converts one type of energy to another. The conversion can be to/from electrical, electro-mechanical, electromagnetic, photonic, photovoltaic, or any other form of energy. While the term transducer commonly implies use as a sensor/detector, any device which converts energy can be considered a transducer.

Its a Carrier water cooled condenser type, chilled water acu system for a Dehumidifier system. Used at the urea fertilizer bulk store. System not running.Suspected TRV defective. Ordered to change new filter drier (block filter) and change new TRV (TRAE30HW90 6A ), purge the affected area. charged in gas-R22 and run system. Continue to charge in gas to LP 60 psi and HP 225 psi, load was 38.5 amps. Require 41 amps @ LP 70 psi, HP 250 psi approx. nominal ratio. At 38.5 Amps the equalizing line started to frost (icing). This shows that there is liquid flow to the return line. At this point the amps drop to 34 amps and LP 38 psi in a period of 20 min.The other system combined to the same chiller is running good with HP 240 psi, LP 68 psi @ 41 amps.
I also tried charging up more gas but the gas did not want to go in. Continued to run system as it is and there was no change.
Whats the remedy to this condition? Tks, Allan
Sounds like you have a partial blockage in the system. You say the equalizing line is frosting. How far back does this start? The start point may be where the blockage is.

totally different branches i know.
I’m interest in the Air Force because right now i’m finishing up my associates degree in Computer Science and i think the Air Force can provide the best experience for such field. This will help me in the future if i decide to re-enter the civilian life. Besides that the living conditions are supposed to be the best compared to other branches and i could enlist as an E-3 opposed to an E-2 from the Marine Corps. One of the problems is that i’m a perm resident and that most of the jobs that i like require citizenship for security clearance. I would have to go in as something like paper pusher and "try" to switch out when i get my citizenship through the faster naturalization process of the military(war time: 1 day, peace time: 1 year).
The Marine Corps are the best of the best at what they do, they are Marines not soldiers. If i were to join the Marine Corps it would be a 03X(0311 - reserve and wait for an opening in rifleman). I’m the type of person who wants to physically be the best in hands to hands combat, weapons, etc. Being the best, excelling faster than anyone, and overcoming my opponent. Having the chance to be in the center of the action is something that not many people get to have and i would love to get that opportunity, going on missions and what not.
Anyways in short i really can’t decide what branch to join… another small factor that would decide where to go would be my wish list. If i could, based on the military’s need i would favor being stationed in Japan… so not sure which branch has the highest chance of that. I know both branch have a high amount of bases(huge base on okinawa for Marine Corps and okinawa + mainland for AF)
The Marines actually have relatively few bases.
Anyways… It seems like you’d rather have the AF job, but you can’t because of the citizenship issue.
If that is the case… then you could:
A. Do Marines for four years. Obtain your citizenship. Decide if you like it. If you do, then stay. If you don’t, then re-enlist in the Air Force in one of the jobs you want.
B. Do Air Force for the entire time. Retrain once you get your citizenship. Take the job you want.
C. Do Marines the entire time.
Personally, I know that my father did Marines for four years. He then went to the AF for 28. He really liked the AF after the Marines and said it was a huge change, because the AF was so relaxed. It probably wouldn’t be a good idea to go from AF to Marines. And you don’t seem to have a reason to.
That being said, the Marines are a really great thing. My dad has told me stories about how it made him a stronger person. [Both mentally and physically.] He was able to not back down from situations that once would have scared him.

@Brandon i’m saying the are the best at what they do. Marines are not soldiers. The Army for example has a huge amount of troops and it’s more about vast vs the Marine which is smaller and more tactical.
take it as you will idc.
Personal advice. If you are torn between the Corps and the Air Force, join the Air Force. The Corps and the Air Force are so different, I don’t think anyone seriously considering the Air Force would be a good fit for the Corps.

My new trane heating and air unit wont kick on outside when the thermostat is changed. I just used the heat two weeks ago and the unit worked fine. But now the outside unit doesnt kick on when the theromostat is set for either the heat or the Air Conditioning. I flipped the outside breakers and the main breaker to my home, but still nothing happened. The auto fan is working and the vents are blowing air. But the outside fan isnt working and clearly the unit is not working. Does it need freon or have i blown a fuse?
There is a number of things that wont let the outside unit work. Usually if the system is low on freon it will still operate, just shut itself off after a while. If this unit is new though it may be still under warranty. Just call the folks that installed your system to find out. To answer your question though it could be a fuse but something had to make it blow. It could be a transformer, or contactor, or contactor coil, or a capacitor. It could even be your thermostat itself if it isn’t wired correctly. If your unit is not a heat pump, the unit outside would not work in heat mode, only cooling. When the thermostat is set to cool, you should hear a click in the outside unit, then the fan and compresser should come on. If you don’t hear the click you may need a transformer, or the contactor coil might be bad. If it does click and nothing else happens you may need a contactor or a capacitor. Either way I would get a trained tech to troubleshoot your system for you. But if its less than say 5 years old I would defiantly be looking for warranty service with the original installer. Or if you have the paperwork from the installation you can call Trane directly. Anyway, Hope I helped…….
