So I’m going to speak to an Air Force recruiter here in only a few hours and I’m very anxious to see whether or not my past decisions hinder my goal. What I want to do is re enlist in the military so that I can make full use of the G.I. Bill. But the thing is when I got out of the Navy Reserve it was under an administrative (under honorable conditions) discharge and from what I’ve been told by my step father who’s spent 20+ years in the Army, the Air Force doesn’t like accepting prior service. Not only that but I’m not a high school graduate I dropped out and got my GED and apparently in a fiscal year they only let up to 8% of the GED folks in. So I was hoping that maybe someone could shed some light on the matter and let me know what my chances are because I’m not real privy to joining the Marines or Army and I can’t go back to the Navy. Oh and on a final note I suppose I should mention that on my discharge papers from the Navy it read "Not recommended for re enlistment". Yeah so that’s what I’m up against. Anyway thanks y’all in advance for your answers.
just want you to know that the air force is not looking for a GED but if you have this and fifteen college credit hours then you are considered a high school graduate. i wish you the best. make sure you mention that tho. you can find more info at usmilitary.about.com feel free to email me.

Does the Army have better equipment, better logistical support, better living conditions, better support networks, better benefits, better weapons, and air support? I want to know the facts. An army soldier is claiming that the army has better of all these things than the marines. I just want to know the facts.
You want to know the true facts? Here it is ; logistical support yes, only because the army is bigger and has a bigger budget. The Marines share the Navy budget as equal partners.
The benefits are in favor of the Army in that it has specialty jobs.Every Marine is a basic riflemen. The Marines also have specialty jobs. After service benefits are the same in all branches of the military.
Weapons are all the same as is the support networks.
Air support is in favor of the marines who perfected it to a science They also have fighter-jet support which the Army has none and must rely on the other branches of the services. The Marines perfected amphiblous warfare and close air support before the Army. as a matter of fact the Marines had to teach the Army about amphibious warfare to invade Europe in WW2. Now, you can decide for yourself. By the way the Marines are a smaller and elite force who can and will deploy in a shorter time than the Army can.

It’s the most toughest to enlist in. Offers the best benefits of the military (Army, Navy etc). And the chance of living and not dying in war is more than 50% compared to Army and Marines. And living condition is much better off.
Yes i loved being spoilt like on the night the Berlin wall went up Friday the 12 august 1961 doing 8 hrs on flight line Duties and 8 hrs Guard duty and spending the other 8 hrs sleeping in a cockpit three days and when we asked for time off we were told Forget it in relation to the Politicians my 38 years was closer to 50 years so much for queens regulation in 1953 which stated ever member of the services is entitled to 8 hrs uninterrupted Sleep HA double HA
In my room in Germany where 2 cooks who got up every morning a 0400 Hrs
and i really loved doing Explosives convoys during peace time sleeping on the back of the Truck with the Explosives
doing Night duty on a special weapons Squadron with temperatures of -27 degrees My overcoat got wet and Froze and when i took it off it stood up all by itself
and During the malaysian emergency and the Confrontation Living in tents doing 8 hrs bombing up aircraft 8 hrs on a bren gun and about 6 hrs sleep
and during the Nato or Seato exercises that lasted for 2 weeks in every month working an average of 14 hrs a day yes lots of pampering
but for about 18 weeks of the year yes i slept in a real bed
and i can not count the amount of times i have been called out from my bed with my wife for a special operation and when i left the Air force after 38 years they owed me over 900 hrs of leave in Lieu 113 days lost never paid put down as gift to my country
there is No job in the Military that can be called Easy Yes i lived on base in air-conditioned and central heated accommodation with temps for 6 months of the year below 15 degrees C it kept us alive

Ok so let me start by saying that I’ve asked this before but didn’t get much help. So I’ll first describe myself for you: I’m a senior now who is one of the top students (ranked number 4 in my entire class last year), I’m black but some of my friends tell me I have a "white" personality because I’m so proper and I’m mostly into rock music. I’m like 5′10 or so, have a sort of athletic body since I played two years of track and going on my third and sometimes work out to stay conditioned, I’m artistic since I like to sketch and I’m really good at it, never drank or smoked anything in my entire life and don’t plan on it. I don’t go to church but I am a practicing christian (my choice not forced) including practicing being abstinent. I’m planning on either going to the marines or air force, not so sure yet. I’m working so it’s not like I’m a bum lol. Honestly people say I’m extremely caring and not like most guys because I always look out for others and make sure they’re happy before I think about myself. People love to have me around since I always seem to brighten their day. So yea that’s the basics of it: good in school, christian, caring, working and pretty athletic. Most of my friends (the girls lol) say that I’m like a great guy, and one of them even said I’m like the angel amoung most guys. It’s not like I’m ugly cause I get alot of compliments on how good looking I am (not to sound concedant, trust me I hate arrogence hahaha). But my biggest problem is that I always end up as the "good friend" and it’s weird. The girls say how they’d love to be with a guy like me but for some reason I’m the friend and that’s it. I tried a few things like not be such the caring guy who the girls can come to and just talk, I tried playing hard to get, and even just being upfront about liking a girl. But every time I get the same results and these common line "I really see you as a good" or "I don’t wanna ruin such a great friendship and make things awkward". And the weirdest part of all is that the women who say how they’d love to date me the most are older woman -_- so it’s pretty awkward to hear that. So can someone please help me out here? What am I doing wrong? I don’t understand how I’m this "great" guy but not good enough to be a boyfriend. So seriously any pointers I’ll definately consider because this has been happening for the last like five years and I’ve grown tired of it.
It’s because when you meet them, you just act like the friend. You have to flirt (not hitting on them, but making them feel special and pretty. Saying stuff like ‘you have adorable eyes’ or ‘you have a cute smile’), and your personality is pretty perfect, so once you draw them in with compliments (and remember not to go overboard with them, it will make you seem like you’re kissing up), then they’ll fall for your personality :]
Good luck!
And i wish there were more guys like you around here.

I’m joining the military straight out of high school. So i was trying to figure out what military academy i would be best for.
I’m in the Junior Air Force program, and will either join the Marines or the Air Force. There’s just one condition, the school HAS to have a music program. Is there any kind of FAQ to find out what qualities tell me were to go, or test to take that would help?
All answers are appriciated, especially those from veterans or students.
I don’t want music as a major, i just want a music course
I know that all of the academies have bands and music programs but I am not sure if they offer a major in music. You actually might want to go the ROTC route because you can go to a school that offers a music major and take ROTC with your major. The Army, Navy (with Marine option) and Air Force offer ROTC scholarships. I just pulled up the USMA (West Point) catalog and I did not see music as a major. I tried to find it in Annapolis and at the Air Force academy with no luck. Your best bet would to be to contact the academies directly with this question. If you speak to a regular recruiter, you will be shown enlisted opportunities. In all honesty, the musicians are enlisted as the officers generally are "managers" of these units. The conductors tend to be warrant officers who have served a couple of years as enlisted members before they apply to be a warrant.
EDIT: If you want to participate in a music program, all of the academies have band and choir programs. You should check each military academy’s website and you could also contact the academies or alumni to see what they have. Good luck.
Thumbs down - I checked the list of majors for the academies. What geniuses are on here tonight?

NATO-led forces are investigating the death of four Marines in eastern Afghanistan after their commanders reportedly rejected requests for artillery fire in a battle with insurgents, the Pentagon said on Wednesday.
Tuesday’s incident was "under investigation" and details remained unclear, press secretary Geoff Morrell told a news conference.
A McClatchy newspapers’ journalist who witnessed the battle reported that a team of Marine trainers made repeated appeals for air and artillery support after being pinned down by insurgents in the village of Ganjgal in eastern Kunar province.
The U.S. troops had to wait more than an hour for attack helicopters to come to their aid and their appeal for artillery fire was rejected, with commanders citing new rules designed to avoid civilian casualties, the report said.
Morrell said the helicopters were not hampered by any restrictions on air power but had to travel a long distance to reach the Marines at the remote location near the Pakistan border.
"I think that it did take some time for close air support to arrive in this case, but this is not a result of more restrictive conditions in which it can be used," he said.
"It was the result, as is often the case in Afghanistan, of the fact that there are great distances often between bases where such assets are located and where our troops are out operating."
Morrell could not confirm whether appeals for artillery fire were denied by commanders.
According to the McClatchy report by Jonathan Landay, the U.S. advisors assisting Afghan forces had been assured before the operation that "air cover would be five minutes away."
The incident comes after the top commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal, issued new restrictions on the use of military force and air raids in a bid to prevent civilian deaths.
McChrystal has warned that civilian casualties caused by the NATO-led force risk alienating the Afghan population and jeopardizing the war effort.
But the general and other top military officials have insisted air support and fire power would not be restricted when U.S. troops were under direct threat.
Bombing runs by coalition forces have declined sharply since McChrystal took over command in June, U.S.A Today reported on Wednesday, citing military statistics.
Tuesday’s firefight in eastern Afghanistan involved a 13-member team of U.S. Marine and Army trainers assigned to the Afghan national army, the report said.
Eight Afghan soldiers and police and an Afghan interpreter also died in the battle, which lasted for hours with insurgents unleashing a barrage of gunfire and rockets from mountain positions, the report said.
When an Afghan soldier demanded helicopter gunships, U.S. Major Kevin Williams replied through an interpreter: "We are pinned down. We are running low on ammo. We have no air. We’ve lost today."
The Americans were assisting Afghan forces in an operation that called for Afghans searching the hamlet for weapons and then meeting village elders to plan police patrols.
But U.S. officers suspected insurgents were tipped off about the operation beforehand, as the coalition and Afghan forces were ambushed as they approached the outskirts of the hamlet at dawn, the report said.

Just asking b/c i was diagnosed with Vitiligo on my penis, but the doctor said it was not severe. The doctor said that it would go away soon if i started to get it treated. So from your previous MILITARY EXPERIENCE, (i’m not expecting you to know this) do you know if you can be eligible for the US ARMY NAVY AIR FORCE MARINES if you have a skin condition called Vitiligo or if you seen anyone in the military with it???? Just answer:::can be eligible for the US ARMY NAVY AIR FORCE MARINES if you have a skin condition called Vitiligo or if you seen anyone in the military with it????
I have seen lots of people in the military with it. No, it will not hurt your chances.
