Can we look at services the Government offers?

The conservatives are against any Government Health care. They want private services. So can we look at other services offered?

Police, Fire and Ambulance. Granted they are controlled by local Government but they receive funds from the Federal Govt. Shall we privatize these services as well so that you need to buy private insurance to be provided these services?

Military. Should we privatize this. We could hire some Private mercenary corporation to provide national security. By the way the military has Govt. Health Care.

How about the Post Office? A first class letter is $0.44. The same letter with Fed-Ex or some other private carrier cost approximately $12.00 and in some areas it is not guaranteed the next day.

What about Air Port Security and Air Traffic Control? Oh wait we tried private security, how did that work out? Lets do Customs and Immigration while were at it.

Now then can we actually have a serious debate about Health Care .The argument it cost to much is hog wash. We pay in America twice that of people in other countries. How about the argument you will have to wait for appointments. Whens the last time you called for a Doctor appointment and got in that very day? Personally I call 3 months in advance for routine appointments. How about waiting for emergency care? O.M.G. I’ll have to wait. I do not think so. If I were in Canada or England or any country and have a heart attack I will be taken care of. Here I am asked who I have for Insurance.

I wont be able to pick my own Doctor. Well as I understand Englands system you pick your Doctor. The Doctor is then paid so much per year per patenet rather you see them or not.

Why do you want to pay millions to health care executive? Do you like having care denied. Do you like not being covered for a pre existing condition? Do you really like paying more then any other country and being rated as the 44TH best health care in the world?
EDIT: Matt, I am 51 Y/O, I have used the postal service for many years. Not once has a letter been lost. I send packages to a friend in England and it takes two weeks. From my home in Wisconsin to my Sister in Idaho about 3-4 days. My pay check is mailed every Monday and I have it every Wednesday unless Monday is a holiday.

I use the closest D.M.V. office. The longest wait I have ever had was 20 minutes.

My son receives survivor benefits from S.S.I. We had a problem when we first signed up which was resolved. Last week we received a letter from S.S.I via the U.S.P.S. to inform us of benefits we were not aware we were entitled to.

I have worked for the same company for the last 30 years. I was hurt on the job. My employers private workers comp insurance denied my claim because I was born with stenosis. My insurance was hooked for $63.000.00 because the worker comp said it was pre existing.
B.T.W. Matt I do nopt fly a lot but I have only hasd 1 delay ever due to a blizzard. My last 2 flights were actually early.

By law the Post Office can not make a profit.
Some things can no doubt be done better in the private sector, some are better taken care of with the Government. Education for example. If it were private only the rich could afford even a basic education.
Well Matt, my son graduated high school this year. He will start at the University of Wisconsin in the fall. He is going for a Doctorate of Psychology.

Your argument about public schools is flawed. Public schools can not discriminate against who is enrolled. Public is required to teach to certain standards, all to often anymore teach to a test thanks to Bush and no child left behind which was never funded by the way. Private schools are allowed to pick just the best and brightest students. By the very nature they can have smaller class size thus enabling the teacher to devote more time with each student. You are comparing apples and oranges.

Say what you want, Medicare works. It works very well. Administrative cost is less than 3%.
It does not pay 100% put it pays most of the bill.

Private insurance companies are allowed to cherry pick the healthy and not insure those with medical conditions or on meds. There needs to a system where you have the right to health care no matter what.
Most Americans are only on layoff away from no more medical insurance, and COBRA don’t get me started. It is limited in duration and as expensive as all get out.

The current system is broken. And yes dear Conservatives get sick too!
This idea started with Teddy Roosevelt, Pick up by Harry Truman, Richard Nix made proposals , but were shot down by the dems LOL, and Clinton Health plan and here are with Obama, Sooner or later it needs to be addressed.

  1. In areas where local governments put their fire, ambulance, and police contracts up for bid the people were provided with cheaper, more innovative, and more responsive services.

Air Traffic Control still uses 30 year old technology. Was your last flight on time?

It takes 2 weeks for government to deliver a letter (if it doesn’t get lost) and it costs much more than $0.44 to the tax payer. The post office runs a huge deficit.

Are you seriously trying to tout the services that government provides? Ever visited the DMV? The Tag Office? The Social Security building? It’s horrible. Ever had a problem with any of those offices? What recourse did you have?

I’m sorry, but I don’t trust the good intentions of a power hungry politician trying to buy votes via the public treasury. I’d rather put my health in the hands of the profit-driven free market.

I’m glad that you’ve had good experiences with government services. (I haven’t been so lucky). The fact remains, government has drastically lower satisfaction ratings than it’s private sector competition.

What country have you been living in? Are you seriously going to say that government does a good job of educating the masses? Sending your kid to gov’t to be educated is child abuse. Everyone knows that private education is better than public. Why not have publicly funded private education? Privatize all schools and give each child a check to choose their school. Make the schools compete for the children. Can you imagine the innovation that would follow?

Don’t forget, while you’re suckling the teat of government, that what is done ‘for you’ is more often actually done ‘to you.’

  2. The very sad and disappointing truth is, many Americans believe this will be different. It doesn’t matter how many times they’ve lost at the government hand-out wheel of fortune, the NEXT program, the NEXT agency, the NEXT reform will be a winner!
