My Air Conditioning system is producing a smoke smell, what needs to be done?

Hi, okay when I turn the AC unit on auto warm a smoke smell appears to be coming from the vents. Do you think I should continue to leave on the unit or shut it down before the unit catches on fire?

What you are doing is burning away dust on the heating coils because you haven’t used the heat in many months. It will continue to get better the more you use it.

do it yourself auto repair air condition?

  1. You really should get it looked over it would appear that there is something not quite right! If it smells wrong it is wrong.
You could have something overheating relating to the motor or,Lets not forget these thing create heat even to cool.

  2. are you turning on the heat? do you have central heat and air? the ac has no warm setting, the ac has no fire, but the heat does, this is normal when you first turn on the heat that’s been off for a long time, hope this helps.

  4. Is this Air Conditioning or a heat pump? If either a central heat pump or heating and air conditioning system it is not abmormal to get a burn or smoke smell when first starting it after the summer.
If this is really AC only then it needs to be checked by a professional. Also if this is central heat and air and the smell continues, it needs to be serviced.
