Why Portable Air Conditioners Make Sense
Portable air conditioners make a lot of sense for a variety of reasons. Let’s say you live in an apartment or a rental unit. You will not want to invest in a permanent air conditioning system because you will not be able to take it with you when the day comes that you would like to move, yet you have invested a sizable amount of money in the system.
This is no problem with a portable air conditioner. You can get one that is exactly the right size for your room needs, and when you want to move you can take it along.
Portable air conditioners also help improve a room’s air circulation. Another great feature to look for in a quality portable air conditioner is its ability to self-evaporate. What this means is that water from the air gets extracted by the unit during the cooling process, and the water is recycled by the system to cool off the hard-working cooling coils. This helps it work more efficiently, and improves its energy efficiency as well.
Some portable air conditioners offer several other features in addition to the all-important air cooling capability. Some offer Air Conditioning, dehumidifying, air cleaning, as well as a two-speed oscillating fan, and all in one small unit. Many of them have casters, which lets you roll the unit to any spot in your home you desire, and they do not need to be installed in a window. In terms of dehumidifying the area, many come with an overflow alarm for the catch bucket as well as a backup system for when the bucket is full, so there will never be any messes to deal with.
Happily, this unit is not permanently installed in a window, but instead is portable. This means anywhere you need cool air, you can now have it with ease. It makes sense to use a portable air conditioner in an apartment, or a home or office. But did you know you can also use the unit in covered outdoor situations, such as in an outdoor room, a workshop or a garage? These systems are great for vacation cabins that you visit infrequently, but when you do you want them to be comfortable in terms of the air temperature, so the portable air conditioner can be a great solution in this situation.
If you have a computer or even a server room, then you know that all of the equipment can run really hot, and it is imperative to have appropriate fans and cooling systems to keep it all from melting down. Portable air conditioners can work very well in these applications, because you can position them exactly where you need them.

My air conditioning at home is not working I probably did something wrong?
Best price on portable air conditioner + heater?
I’m a broke college student living in a room with no AC in a state that’s had 110 degree days most of the summer. There’s also no central heat in the room so I figure it would make much more sense to splurge on one of those fancy portable ac’s with heater attached, instead of just a window unit ac. I’m trying to find the cheapest one possible, as I’m spending my organic chem book money to buy this darn thing. I’m literally DYING over here, and summer doesn’t end for at least another month or two here. The cheapest I’ve seen is at Wal-Mart for $359.00. Does anyone know where I can beat that or is that as good as it’s gonna get for the luxury of having heat and air?
Does your building have a heating system???? I would think to try and find a used A/C unit (window) or get a bucket of ice and put a fan behind it haha

Thats a cheap price. Try to find a window unit that you can rig to fit your window.

That’s the same price I’ve seen here. If you are broke, don’t sell your book! Buy a floor pedestal fan. I live in a continually hot climate. Right now the humidity is also high. I have air conditioning, but don’t use it. I just keep the fan going to move the air, and I didn’t pay much for my fan.
