Stupid Builders = VERY Scary Rooftop Air Conditioner Access!
Check this out. Possibly the WORST 2 story rooftop Air Conditioner setup EVER in the Pheonix/Scottsdale, AZ area!
This is at the 7700 E Indian School Rd area of Scottsdale, AZ.
These are two story rooftops. The Air Conditioners are on these steep pitched rooftops with NO catwalk to stand on while servicing (which is required by code). These are designed so retarded that they have a lower roof level that is at about a 5/12 pitch and they expect you to place your 20+ foot ladder on it and hope it doesn’t slide of as you climb almost 20 feet higher to reach the second story rooftop that is also about a 5/12 pitch!
I can only wonder how the fack this sh*t even left the drafting board and became a reality???
Seriously. Throughout the planning and building of these abortions, NO ONE stepped up and thought this was a BAD and UNSAFE setup???
I am still trying to understand which it is in this area between the builders and city/county officials. Is it Corruption, Incompetance, or BOTH???

Air Cooler For Commercial Purposes
Scottsdale has some …
Scottsdale has some beautiful and well-designed buildings, but that wasn’t one of them!
I was on that street in December 08.
another good …
another good complex is off of shea and 96th st..8600 becker Lane. appartments converted to condo’s. first company airhandlers in the ceiling and condensors 34 feet up and 6 feet down…….um building code for scottsdale states anything over 16ft is required to have a fixed ladder……oops geuss the inspector missed that one.
What you didnt …
What you didnt point out is that HALF of those lower roof acesses points are TILED TOO!!!……I worked on one of those old goettl gas packs, and yes those over unders are goettls like 5 years ago, almost fell, then our company added that complex to our list of do not service…..bull all the way
This video make me …
This video make me wish I would of rolled some of my Comcast arrivals.
i gotta question… …
i gotta question….would be just as scary if those tiles weren’t there? what i mean is would it be better if the roof was all shingles?
wow ! whoever that …
wow ! whoever that built this rooftop
he/she so great
how did he/she do that
this is awesome.
more then that it’s gona be cool when the earh quake LOL
That’s insane! But …
That’s insane! But if the customer doesn’t want to pay for safety, then forget it. If you use a ladder and fall down, they’ll say: “he knew all about safety and shouldn’t have taken the risk. But he was a good guy”.
And what a terrible view from the street side with all those ugly units on the rooftops. If you’re ever going to sell you’re house in that street, that would scare off potential buyers.
I like you’re videos!
That would be sort …
That would be sort of funny if true,. Too bad they’ve built this same design all over town. The Phoenix area building codes and safety codes are easily bypassed it seems.
I gaurantee this …
I gaurantee this was a retrofit after they started building the houses.
“Oh NO! We forgot to put in air conditioners!”
The customer would …
The customer would probably just call another company who will send out a tech who will just use the ladder off of his truck. But that’s fine by me. Let someone else have these jobs. Someone else’s luxory appliance isn’t as important as me living or being able to walk if I were to fall from these crazy set ups! >:-/
It’s a small …
It’s a small section of “tract homes” in which the builder/architect actually designed and built about 100 homes all like this in this neighborhood. I don’t know why the city would have ever approved this sh*t in the first place. Mechanical code clearly states there shall be a level catwalk around each unit not too mention a safer way to reach the roof.
I’d get one of …
I’d get one of those scissor lifts or boom trucks from Taylor Rental to service that and charge the residential customer for the rental plus my time to rent and return it.
Wait did you say all I had was a ladder or two? F*ck that!
I can see the workmans comp claim now.
“Claim Denied - employee stupid”
thats a . …
thats a . looks like a “custom” installation. i would have at least used green bar and all thread to make it detachable. stupid es. please somebody dont let the temp workers think. it just gets you in troube. they belong handing you tools. haha if you let them go look what happens!!!!
WHO’S idea was it …
WHO’S idea was it to make it the contractors responsibility? The builder/architect? When you say contractor, I ume you mean HVAC company? Sounds like more bullshit excuses by them builders. Per code there is supposed to be a level catwalk around the unit with 30″ of space to walk/sit/stand on. it’s sad how they continue to get away with this sh*t and then pass the problem on to the next guy. Oh well. I don’t have to do these roofs anymore. I refuse.
thats insane! ….i …
thats insane! ….i would hate to service those units
I spoke to a freind …
I spoke to a freind of mine, said he was at an engineering meeting (not az) the idea they had was that it is the contractors responsibility to use a harness in case he falls..thought that would cheer you up………BUT..what I cannot believe is they let them stay in sight, no parapit, no lattice just a bunch of crap stuck up on top of a hilarious mock tile whatever it looks crappy.
EXACTLY! And …
EXACTLY! And rooftops like this are defenitly where I draw the line! Too bad there are residential HVAC companies who expect their techs to climb these fackin’ roofs!
If you can trust …
If you can trust the helicopter pilot to hold still!
No doubt!
No doubt!
LOL! It got wacked …
LOL! It got wacked with a LARGE rock one week after I got that windshield replaced!
There are some …
There are some homes similar to this that I have walked on the tile. Because the only safe place to set my ladder would be far away from the strip of shingles they expected you to use. On these homes, you will see that they expected you to bring a ladder up onto that first rooftop, and set your ladder on that pitched roof to climb up to the second level! Holy ! I would NEVER climb up there like that! But that’s how STUPID the builder here was!
The problem is, I …
The problem is, I don’t think they enforce codes here.
If I ever get a …
If I ever get a place in Phoenix I’ll have you and you only do my air conditioning, cause I know you’ll do it the RIGHT way. I’ve seen all your videos on the hacked installs, it’s amazing.
Why the **** do …
Why the **** do they put units up there anyways? Is the attic too hot for ductwork? How are you gunna tote a compressor up there lol. That is such bs. Id call the local tv station and maybe they can help.
800 dollar lift …
800 dollar lift rental for the day or week, plus the crane to remove and replace units, on top of the lawn care for all the tire tracks in the grass hahaha, I keep seeing more and more hack jobs in AZ, good luck to those mechanics!!! Not to mention is looks like absolute ing , jesus.
