Does using the air conditioning in my car increase the amount of fuel used?

Does using the Air Conditioning in my car increase the amount of fuel used? And also, by how much? for example, if it does increase the amount of fuel used, is it a negliable amount? or is it rather significant?

yep..its not that much but it does sum

  4. It’s a negligible amount. Driving with windows open causes drag, which also uses more fuel.

  6. Yes because the compressor and the fans put additional load on the engine.

  7. Yes, it does consume more fuel. And the higher you have the A/C turned up, the more. I would say it doesn’t use MUCH more fuel, but accumalatively (yeah I probably spelled that wrong :P) it can add up to be a good ammount of extra fuel used. Your best bet is the roll the windows down for a while to get the heat OUT, and then turn on the A/C on a low setting so that it can still pump cold air into your car, yet at the same (or better) efficiency. I’ve found that by doing this, you can save a significant ammount of gas overall.

  8. Such a small amount, it doesn’t even make much of a difference. The engine does not have to work very hard to get the air to the a/c compressor and into your car. Having the windows open, however, will cause the car to guzzle more gas than just running the a/c. Opening the window causes drag, and in turn, makes the engine work harder to maintain speed. You are much better off just using the a/c.

  9. Yes it takes a amount of fuel to run the AC compressor and it will be not much. For example my car goes 13kmpl withour AC on and with AC it goes 12kmpl.
The advantage of having AC is you can avoid air drag in highways and your interior will be dust free and looks good.

  10. It depends on you speed. Although I can not remember where I read this ( I think it was Transportation Topics magazine) The general rule is it is more economical to have all your windows down at speeds below 40 mph anything over 40 mph the wind drag makes it more economical to run your a/c
