All About Air Conditioning Odors

Many drivers have experienced odors stemming from Air Conditioning in the past. Think about the first time that you turn the air conditioning on in the vehicle, that first hot day - we can avoid the strange smells that arise from the vehicle with proper air conditioner maintenance, installation and flushing of the fluids that are used within the air conditioner.

What causes these foul smells to arise from the air conditioner systems? Sometimes, the solution can be as simple as flushing the air conditioning system, as running the vehicle in a dusty, dirty or sandy environment could mean that these particles have been absorbed into the system, meaning that the vehicle is than transferring this dirty air through the vehicle lines and systems causing odors to be present within the air conditioning system of the vehicle.

How does the air conditioner work? When the vehicle air conditioning is turned on, the compressor for the air conditioner transforms the liquid, the refrigerant in the radiator where it is transformed to a liquid, which has the ability to cool the engine. There is a unit that allows for the evaporation of heat, and allows the cool air to flow through the air conditioner, cooling the vehicle and making for a more comfortable drive.

Did you know that the majority of smells that come about from an air conditioning unit in a vehicle are moldy or mildew smelling odors? The particles within the air conditioning system, the dirt and grime within, can lead to mould developing. This doesn’t only produce a bad odor, but can be harmful to your health when breathed in over long periods of time. This dirt can accumulate within the housing of the air conditioner, and bring the odor out each time that the air conditioner is turned on.

Each season, experts recommend that the air conditioning system be flushed, and new fluids be injected into the system. Did you know that just maintaining this one simple task can reduce the amount of smells coming out of the air conditioner significantly? As well, this gets rid of the excess dirt, mould and other bad things that make their home in the housing of the air conditioning system. This maintenance for the system can be completed for about a hundred dollars at the local oil changing shop, or the local mechanic.

Ensuring that these simple techniques have been completed will make your air conditioner run more efficiently, while getting rid of the bad smells that come with dirty air conditioning systems.

As an alternative to these methods, the air conditioner housing can be removed and the system can be cleaned. Cleaning the housing, as well as cleaning the hoses and pipes that come with the system means that air can run through a clean system, which will ensure that the air that comes through the vents within the car is clean, and can cool efficiently with a fresh and clean smell that comes with a proper functioning air conditioner.

  3. I assume this question is a joke. If it is a serious question, then I suggest you read it again and try to understand the range you are asking.

It would take me more than an hour to break it down for you and nobody has that time. It’s like asking ‘what’s the history of planet earth, oh and by the way how many planets are there, how far apart, what is they relative size, shape and atmosphere etc….’. Ask one question and you will get answers.

Help others to help you. Ask narrower questions.
